about

Hi, my name is Andreas Wiesmann, COS for short. I work and live in Bern, Switzerland.

I write and produce musical pieces, for myself and spoken word/rap artists to date.

COS.fm started around the turn of the millennium – after a musical odyssey. I learned to play violin as a kid, later classical and electric guitar, passing by jazz school, then gave it a try as an electro DJ, eventually ending up playing in a stoner metal band. This is when I got into sound engineering and I started to truly understand the beauty of the soundtracks by Portishead, Björk, International Observer, Tool, Russian Circles, Funkvater Frank and Sevdaliza – just to name the ones that likely influenced me the most.

After all, it took quite a few friends pushing me into stepping out of my studio and releasing some pieces. My music is raw like the brutalist concrete condos, where I grew up, and yet colourful as my latino origins. I look for the essence of things, both as a musician and daytime black collar lawyer. This is how I stay grounded. And yet, I guess I still prefer reading synth manuals over legal stuff – and I love my electronic knick knack.

I am currently working on an EP with rap/spoken word artist BK, who describes my music as follows:

„Expect the sparse, dry, slightly chilly – but not the absence of love.

If we talk in landscapes, COS.fm’s music is rather a barren high plateau than a tropical beach.

If we talk in photographs, the saturation is very low, but the image is not quite black and white. Colors are still there, as hints to be detected by the attentive listener. A little bit like late fall or early winter in Switzerland.

If we talk in professions, COS.fm is rather the chemist in his laboratory than the landscape gardener.

COS.fm likes to be in control of what happens in his tracks, but at the same time he invites the audience to listen closely in order to discover the tender details beneath the crisp, rationally designed surface. It is in these details where he expresses his vulnerability, of which he is not at all afraid, but embraces it with open arms. After all, being vulnerable is what makes us human — and interesting.

Oh, and what I forgot: Expect fat, uncompromising beats.“
